K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge: The Metal City of Mars

metal, cities, architecture, cityscapes, fantasy, Mars, Martian cities, imaginary locales

in my mind, metal cities on Mars exist… no, really.

Here’s a question: Could a city made entirely of metal exist? I’m not going to say absolutely because to be honest, I don’t know. However, not knowing doesn’t stop me from using my imagination to create one.

This was the one word provided by Dale on Friday for today’s challenge. As always, I you, anyone choosing to take on the challenge, can interprret it however they choose. Over the weekend, I had a few images I thought I’d go with, but this is the one that stayed in my mind longest… so…

This particular one, which I call, ‘The Metal City of Mars’. Those who know me wouldn’t be too surprised to learn this one initially bore a much bluer cast. Ultimately, I figured keeping to a more traditionally metallic look fit the ‘prompt bill’ nicely.

For those who may not know, the actual city I metallically redesigned is the one and only San Francisco. I took the photo from a nice spot high on a hill directly behind me at the time called Coit Tower

At some point, maybe I’ll actually design a full on original Metal City of Mars. Who knows, it could come in handy one day?

Marie did a fantastic job, which has me thinking of building a story based on my mythical city. See what I mean here

The one and only Dale, creator of this challenge ‘knocked the ball out of the park’ with this

Sue also added her artistic vision to the challenge with this offering

It’s not too hard. Once you’ve decided how you define METAL, create your post. Copy the URL address of it and paste it into the comment section of this post or Dale’s challenge post. (I’ll add a link to it directly once it and me are up!) Lastly, add the tag #CosPhoChal to your tag section, and you’re done!

  1. I love it! A very tall and slender SF, no doubt because of the lesser gravity on Mars. So, presumably, 630 Sansome Street, where I worked for two years, is there, too. And the SE corner of Scott and Pine?

    1. Thanks, Sue. Yes. You guessed right. That Martian gravity will play havoc on San Francisco style architecture. Makes me wonder what most San Franciscans would do if they woke up one morning and found the entire city transported to a Martian terrain? Could make for an interesting work day.
