K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge: When Day Turns Into Night

imageWith each new prompt I or my buddy Dale offer in the ‘K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge’, I find myself purposely taking a little extra time to locate and choose photos I think represent the best expression of the challenge- for me.

Take for instance our latest challenge:

When Day Turns Into Night

Now, as both Dale and I always say, we encourage anyone looking to join us to be as free as possible in their interpretation of the prompt, so long as it has something to do with -well, the actual prompt!

What I finally decided to do with this latest challenge was to use a single photo – I of course could have played it a bit more radical and explored via slideshow and multiple images, this theme of seeming contrasts, but I didn’t.

As I said, I decided to use a single image of a single location and get to work on presenting said image as both a ‘daytime shot’ and contrastingly as a ‘nighttime shot’.

First up, the daytime variant of one of several amazing waterfalls found in San Francisco’s extremely spacious Golden Gate Park:

waterfalls, Golden Gate Park, nature photography

cloud-dotted blue skies, emerald green tree leaves and grasses all serve to spotlight the majesty of the waterfall encased in daylight.

Having ran with this shot, I had to then ask myself: ‘Self, how can you show the same photo in a way which simulates nighttime…

…should I just return at night and take a bunch more-

The nighttime shot looks like this:

San Francsco's Golden Gate Park, waterfalls, nighttime photography

nighttime in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park with the roar of the waterfall before me…

Can you see and more importantly feel the contrast?

Does the first really convey a sense of daytime?

Does the second feel and look like it happened at night?

For me, I suppose the whole point of choosing this particular prompt was to seek out a way to offer a legit day and a legit nighttime shot of the same subject.

I like the results.

Want to join in? It’s not too hard.

Just create your post as you normally do, keeping in mind it’ll likely need  title similar to the one above. When you’re done copy the post’s URL and paste it into the comment section of either this post or the one you’ll find on Dale’s site today concerning ‘days turning into night’.

Be sure to use the tag #CosPhoChal, as it’ll let others find your fantastic work too.

Once you’ve done all that…you’ll be done!

Have an awesome Monday, whether day…or night!
