As many of you may know, both Southern and Northern California are currently dealing with insane, costly, and most heartbreaking, deadly fires. Some are said to be the worst in state- recorded history.
At times, it’s hard to process just how bad these fires, which are still burning, truly are. I look out my windows and the brownish-gray tint of the sky, worse today than it’s been since this round of fires began over a week ago, do cause me to worry somewhat, to try remembering to grab my air filter mask (and use it!) before heading outside.
Yet I know for all the inconvenience we here in the Bay Area feel about air quality, the burning scent, and lack of blue skies, those things can not compare to some of the cold, hard facts occurring around us.
As of this morning, some estimates have risen to over sixty dead and six hundred still missing near and around the ‘Camp Fire’ area. I’d say our ‘minor inconveniences ‘ really don’t mean a thing… not in the face of that kind of loss and pain.
It’s Friday here at Obzervashunal, a day me and my buddy Dale use for the offering of new prompts in our ongoing, K’lee and Dale’s Cosmic Photo Challenge.
‘Amidst all the environmental, governmental, and global concerns many of us are looking at and dealing with, I still want to offer the following prompt:
THE LOOK AND FEEL OF GRATITUDE
I don’t know about you, but for me, nothing brings my mind into sharper focus on what I have to be grateful for than knowing others have it so much worst that I do, or in the cases of those dealing with the unimaginable losses these fires are bringing, a mere week before we here in the United States ‘celebrate’ a holiday called Thanksgiving, worse than I’ve ever experienced.
This coming weekend, and I’m sure far beyond, will have me considering this prompt a little deeper than most. Come Monday, the day we unveil the challenge results, I hope I can say I’ve done the prompt some serious justice.
In the meanwhile, please be well, be safe, be compassionate where you can, and consider what you have that you’re most grateful for.
I know I will.
